Cool

We feature a cool groove this week. We'll begin the set where we left off last week with some great piano work by Kelley, Evans and Brubeck, than slide into those artists that you associate with the cool jazz movement like Getz and Miles. Of course, I sprinkle in some local talent that can groove with the masters.

Reincarnation Live

We have a special edition of In The Groove this week. Reincarnation, a talented group of young jazz artists from Western Massachusettes journeyed down to the WHUS studios to perform live on our show. Reincarnation is Dia Silverstein (as, ss, fl), Rick Tutunjian (ts), Jason Schwartz (b), Ben Kohn (p), Tom Parker (d). It was a thrill for me to host this live broadcast. I had a lot of fun, as did these great musicians. I hope we can do more of this. Any interested jazz cats, send me an email!

Jazz in New England

Last night we journeyed to Woonsocket, Rhode Island to see sax great Greg Abate play a gig at Chans Egg Roll and Jazz. We had a great evening, and it reminded me how fortunate we are here in New England. It's not NYC, where you can catch a dozen big name jazz artists on any given Saturday evening. But if you look hard enough, you can find some great, if not well known cats blowin' some modern jazz at a supper club, high school gym, or theater. Tonights show features some of those hard working jazz cats pursuing their art. If you appreciate that art in your neck of the woods, go out and attend these gigs. Show these musicians you care.
