Themeless

Usually I try to put together a theme for each show, but this week, I just did not have the time to prepare. So, I am just making it up as I go along. Sometimes those shows turn out the best. Hope you think so.

For Our Fathers

On the eve of Fathers Day, we dedicate this set to our Dads. These are tunes inspired by fathers, or in some cases tunes that bring back recollections of musical experiences with my father. This is a wild mix of latin, hard-bop, R&B, fusion, and even 70's rock from Emerson Lake & Palmer. To Fathers everywhere, I hope you enjoy these tunes on Father's day... Mother's and Daughters too.

Bebop and Beyond

Part 1 of tonight's show sticks to straight ahead bebop by new and old artists. Greats like early Trane, Wynton Kelly, Red Garland are represented here, along with more recent artists Abate, Farrell and Wynton Marsalis. Part two branches out into more modern forms with Pulitzer Prize winning Ornette Coleman followed by electronic infused jazz from Pete Carney. We finish the show with an on-air guest Tom Monaghan, percussionist and composer with Probe called Gnomes, talking music and playing his compositions.

Bebop great Greg Abate kickin' solos

I was honored to attend this private function where Greg Abate broke out his axe and tore it up for a few friends and family. I captured it on my digi cam and posted some clips on YouTube (with permission).
