Lighten up!

Last few weeks, we have played some serious hard-bop jazz. This week we'll lighten it up with a great new (posthumous) release by the Genuis, Ray Charles featurning some great arrangements from the Count Basie Orchestra. Following that will be a rockin' fusion set of new releases from Bob Reynolds, Mike Stern and Christian McBride. Than back to some serious jazz with a great new CD from Alto saxist Kenny Garrett with featuring Pharoah Sanders on tenor. We have had a rainy weekend here in Connecticut, and the show will close with one of my favorite Trane ballads, appropriately titled After the Rain.

More Hartford International Jazz Festival

Last weekend's Hartford International Jazz Festival was so much fun, I just had to do another show featuring some of the great jazz artists that performed for an enthusiasic crowd of jazz music fans. The weekends activities were spread out over many different venues in the city of Hartford, including a church, auditorium, bars, night clubs and restaurants. It renewed my faith in the city of Hartford as a viable, thriving community for jazz and a hip nightlife. Check out Omar Sosa, Lou Donaldson, Cyrus Chestnut and Eric Alexander on tonights show. Jazz is alive and kickin' in Hartford CT

Nothin' better than live jazz, and there is lots of it here in the Hartford Connecticut area. This weekend is the Hartford International Jazz Festival with live jazz music all night downtown in many different venues. Check it out at www.hijf.com. If you are seeing this Saturday or Sunday, and live in the Hartford area, attend some of these gigs. Support Jazz music in downtown Hartford! I will be checking out the Lou Donaldson Quartet featuring Dr. Lonnie Smith on Saturday, and Cyrus Chestnut with Eric Alexander on Sunday. Also, there are great local artists playing in nightclubs downtown after the concerts. I'll be checking out those too. We also attended a great concert at the University of Connecticut with the young piano phenom Eldar Djangirov. So this podcast features Eldar, Dr. Lonnie Smith and Eric Alexander, all of which are performing in the Hartford area. How great is that!
