Masters of 70's Jazz Fusion

These are the tunes that changed my life. It changed my musical tastes from Hendrix, Doors and Cream, to Miles, Mahavishnu and Trane. Miles started it all with Bitches Brew, combining African and Jazz rhythm with American funk. John McLaughlin played electric guitar with passion, fire and spirituality. Herbie tamed the Fender Rhodes electric piano adding fuzz and wha-wha to his gorgeous jazz solos. Weather Report experimented with new instrumentation and sound improvisations. Jazz music rose in popularity with College students. These were great times for Jazz music.

Independent Jazz Artists

Tonights show features some great independent Jazz artists. These are Jazz musicians, that do not have recording contracts with record labels. Although they may be deserving, the sorry state of the music industry is such that Jazz is being ignored by the major labels. These are great musicians that are left to promote their music the hard way. One way is to seek out Jazz DJ's, contact them by email, send out CD's and ask that they be given some air time. If you like what you hear tonight, seek out their CD's and support these great musicians. I welcome such Jazz musicians to submit their work to me, and if it fits the show, I will continue to feature independent Jazz musicians in future shows.

Obligatory Best Of 2005 Show

As the first show of 2006, you just have to do a 'Best Of 2005 Show", so this is it. All the tracks from today's show are releases from 2005. There were a lot of great releases last year. It was really difficult to pare the selections down to fit it in the two hour show. Who says Jazz is dead?
