East meets West

Indian-jazz Fusion is one of my favorite styles of jazz music. While classical Indian rhythms and scales have influenced jazz musicians for decades, this particular sound I give credit to John McLaughlin's Shakti project. Here we have several examples of Indian Fusion as represented by artists like Mynta, Fareed Haque, Prassana and others.

Great show, indeed! Gary Burton with Pat Metheny is amazing...as always! Kurt is such a great talent. He headlined a concert here in Detroit, during our annual Labor Day jazz fest. He is always Grammy nominated for 'Best Jazz Vocalist' and sooner, rather than later he HAS to win! He deserves it.

I'm inviting all jazz fans to come to the 'D' for our annual 4 day Labor Day Jazz fest (FREE...amazing!). This will be one to attend as the festival is celebrating its 30th anniversary.

Scheduled performers:

Dave Brubeck
Wayne Shorter Quartet..fea. Danilo Perez
Christian McBride
Stefon Harris & Blackout
Dee Dee Bridgewater
Louis Hayes in Cannonball Tribute
Hank Jones Trio
Brian Blade
Gerald Wilson and MORE!

...and worth the trip alone:
Brian Auger and Oblivion Express!!

for more details, check the festival website:
www.detroitjazzfest.com

Hope to you you there!
