Jackie McLean Birthday Tribute

This podcast pays tribute to the great alto sax player Jackie McLean on what would have been his 78th birthday on May 17. A protege of Charlie Parker and Miles Davis, McLean had a wide ranging influence on the jazz idiom. To those of us in the Hartford Connecticut area, where Jackie made his home in his later years, his influence is even deeper. He is responsible for mentoring many young jazz artists in the area and has created this great jazz scene in our city. In addition to being the Jazz director at University of Hartford's Hartt school of music, he was the founder of the Artists Collective which fosters the Arts in many forms in the urban areas of Hartford.

That Joe Farrell track is great. Can you add Amazon links too. Sometimes Amazon is a wee-bit (lots) cheaper...

For a few weeks, I alternated iTunes and Amazon links. I made a few sales on iTunes and zero sales on Amazon. So, I decided to stick with iTunes links. I through in a couple of amazon links where the tracks weren't available in itunes.

That's cool, Ken, if you cannot do both.

Personally, I usually hit eMusic first.

FWIW, I probably spend more money that I ever did on music (and buy fewer used CDs), but it is spread around to more artists.

Thanks Ken,

I'm listening to this podcast right now, and once more it is a wonderfully great selection.

Just a question. My attention sometimes drifts off (filling in taxes for instance right now), and I lose track of which track is playing right now. What I mostly do, is note it and then afterwards in iTunes browse manually until I find your speech. Is there a better way to do that?

greetings from Belgium,

Bruno

I'd say the best way to keep track of what is playing is to follow along on this website with the playlist that I have posted here.

Once I tried posting the starting time of each track, but the process was too time consuming. I might try again.

Yeah, that's probably the simplest method. Not that easy in the car, but if it's really good I'll remember to come back to it and look it up.

I understand that indeed, it's time consuming to put in starting times (or use the cut-up functionality within the file -- unless you can do it at recording time). It's not worth it.
