Jazz-Latin

Maybe I should be calling this show Latin-Jazz, but to me this is Jazz, performed by musicians surrounded by Latin culture and influences. I am not an expert in latin music by any means. In the 70's, Carlos Santana introduced the Latin sound to rock fans. Gato Barbieri was fusing jazz music with his Argentinan latin roots. More recently Jerry Gonzalez and the Fort Apache band began playing jazz standards and originals with distinct latin arrangements. New artists like Gonzalo Rubalcaba, and Insight led by Zaccai and Luques Curtis are continuing that trend.

Great show, as usual. I dig Zenon. I saw him this past winter in the SF Jazz Collective at Portland Jazz Fest (Oregon) with Dave Douglas & Joe Lovano.

As for other latin-jazz, if you're interested in the future...

(all four on Tzadik... and thus having a klez contingent, but still very much jazz)

David Buchbinder - Odessa/Havana (cuban klez)
Irving Fields meets Roberto Rodriguez - Oy Vey.....Olé!!!
Roberto Rodriguez Septeto - Baila! Gitano Baila!
Roberto Rodriguez - El Danzon De Moises

Oh, and I'll try again to iTunes you some Masada (it didn't work when I tried last week... some sort of internal error)...
